英國的歌手眾多，有的是靠包裝而起的偶像派、有的是老牌歌手、有的是搖滾樂手轉為流行歌手、有的是才子型的。老牌歌手、搖滾樂手和才子型的魅力無法擋，總令人一張接一張地買。說到才子型歌手，有些具有雙重身分，譬如Eric Clapton, 他是搖滾樂手，也是才子型的，又譬如Sting,他早期在The Police中算搖滾樂手，後來單飛又變成才子型的流行歌手。
Sting單飛後不久的兩三張專輯我都很喜歡，時間大概是1990-1994年，其中我覺得最有意思的歌曲大概就屬"Fields of Gold", "They Dance Alone"還有"when We Dance"，這三手都是慢板情歌，除了"They Dance Alone"之外，都是談情說愛的。不過這談情說愛的本領也很高強，怎麼可能直接說「你愛我、我愛你，你不愛我我就把殺了」？
因此我最喜歡的也是其中歌詞的婉轉迂迴。
這可不是代表婉轉迂迴的歌詞比較有深度，只不過這幾首的旋律實在不適合太直接的示愛。如果要說哪一首又是我最喜歡的，一定是"Fields of Gold".
我聽一首歌，一定先聽旋律，再來才聽歌詞，常常有某首歌曲我一開始沒印象，後來因為歌詞深度才愛上的。"Fields of Gold"即屬此類。
當然旋律也很棒，其實編曲的格式很固定，都是有節拍的顫音連續，沒想到這樣也能交織成一首歌曲。
